Additional Legends school community events will be held in the next few months for families who have accepted their placement.

Special / Enrichment Courses: K-4 students will be offered the following specials: Spanish, physical education, art, music, financial education, and library.  5th graders will take Latin.  Additional elective courses will be added each year.

Uniform Policy:  The Legends Charter School culture embraces a dress code policy appropriate for elementary school students; uniforms will not be required.  Our dress code approach is derived from our experience educating students in a wide spectrum of urban educational settings and research finding school uniforms does not improve attendance, academic preparedness, or exam results.

Special Education: Legends will have a dedicated Special Education teacher in addition to the Special Education resources provided by PGCPS.

Tours of the Facility: The recently acquired facility located at 9700 Philadelphia Court in Lanham will be under renovation through the summer, and it will not be feasible to accommodate tours of the facility before the school opening.  However, rest assured, we are creating a WELL inspired 21st Century learning environment that will be open in time for the school year.

Classroom Sizes: there are four classes in each grade, with 25 students in each class, supported by two adults.  The lead, subject expert teacher, is responsible for providing instruction for their specific course (math, science, reading, or humanities).  The Legends Fellow provides support to the teacher and student with a focus on attendance, behavior, and culture.  The Legends Fellow will be trained in the Legends approach to Social-Emotional Learning.

TAG Designation: Our advanced liberal arts curriculum was designed to be challenging for even our brightest students and puts them on track to take advanced placement courses by 8th grade and for dual enrollment by 11th grade.  While we do not necessarily have TAG designation, I can assure you the rigor of our program, coupled with the incorporation of blended learning will provide your child with an individualized course of instruction on an advanced track not offered in most of the TAG designated schools.  Legends is not considered a STEM school.  We have an intense focus on Literacy and Math while offering Science as an individual course starting in kindergarten (not standard practice even in most "STEM" elementary schools) with Technology and Engineering electives offered.
